This paper assessed the perceived roles of teachers in classroom management. Two prominent classroom management theories by Skinner (behaviourism theory) and Glasser’s Choice theory were used to explain the issues discussed in the paper by the writer. Certain concepts were discussed in relation to the topic with relevant authors cited to support the author’s claims. Based on the discussions in relation to literature review, it was concluded that effective teaching and learning cannot take place in a poorly managed classroom and a well-managed classroom is one which provides an environment in which teaching and learning can flourish positively and progressively. The author recommended that for effective and efficient classroom management to be achieved by today’s classroom teachers, they should not use vague rules as well as the rules that you are unwilling to enforce and also recommended that teachers should not ignore student’s behaviours that violate school or classroom rules so as to curb future occurrences and that they should not engage in ambiguous or inconsistent treatment on students’ misbehaviours among others.
