Correlates of Students’ Performance in the French Language among Ekiti State Secondary Schools

Abstract

This study investigated the Correlates of Students’ Performance in the French Language among Ekiti State Secondary Schools. The study employed the correlation design method to investigate the correlation between predictors and students’ performance in the French language. The sample for this study was taken from 3 senatorial districts in Ekiti State. Simple random sampling was used in selecting three Local Governments and three (3) Schools from each of the local governments, making a total of nine schools. Based on the result obtained in the study, it was revealed that there is a positive and strong relationship between teachers’ teaching methods and students' academic performance. Also, it showed that there is a strong and positive correlation between students’ academic performance and availability and the use of adequate instructional materials. It can be concluded that inadequate instructional materials affect the students’ academic performance in the French language. Teachers were encouraged to use two or more methods of teaching to achieve the desired objective, they should also create an atmosphere conducive to learning and also use various instructional materials to keep students engaged and motivated throughout the learning process.
