Influence Of Covid-19 On The Academic Performance Of Students With Hearing Impairment In Rivers State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study examined the influence of Covid-19 on the academic performance of students with hearing impairment in Rivers State. The descriptive research design was adopted for the study. Three research hypotheses were formulated to guide the conduct of the study. The population of the study consisted of all the students with hearing impairment in Rivers State. The sample size used for the study was 35 students with hearing impairment in the area. The stratified random sampling technique was used for the study. The instrument for data collection was a self-designed questionnaire. T-test was used in testing the null hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study revealed that Covid-19 negatively influence the academic performance of students with hearing impairment in Rivers State based on age. That Covid-19 negatively influences the academic performance of students with hearing impairment in Rivers State based on gender. And that, Covid-19 negatively influences the academic performance of students with hearing impairment in Rivers State based on parents’ socioeconomic status. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others, that the government should direct all special schools to extend physical teaching periods, and provide online teaching to cover up for the lost academic periods.
