This paper is on managing stress for personnel efficiency and effectiveness in Nigeria. institutions of learning, with particular reference to the staff of National Open University of Nigeria. The incidence of stress, particularly in work organisations has become an important issue of serious concern with no respite in sight and yet, so many reasons have been adduced for its causes, effects and in some few cases, probable preventions of it. The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of stress in the lives and work of educational personnel in the case of a Nigerian higher institution. The paper identifies what work stress is all about, its causes and their effects on individuals and organisations as well as immediate steps individuals and organisations can take to address or minimize it, and how to care for troubled workers with an emphasis on the available resources for stress management, are also discussed. And based on these discussions, conclusion was drawn and recommendations were made.
