Predictive influence of Locus of Control and Academic Motivation on Social Adjustment among Secondary School Students with Visual Impairment in Oyo State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between locus of control, academic motivation and social adjustment of secondary school students with visual impairment. The population of the participants consisted of all the secondary school students with visual impairment in Oyo state, while the sample comprised twenty-nine (29). The participants were screened with a Snellen chart to ascertain their level of visual impairment. Locus of control questionnaire (LCQ ; r =.83) and Academic Motivation Questionnaire (AMQ; r=.78). The findings show a significant relationship between Locus of control, Academic Motivation and social adjustment of students with Visual Impairment. Based on the findings of this study, parents should provide for the needs of their children. The school should expose students with visual impairment to social skills which will enhance their social interactions.
