Prospects of Teaching Community Education for Effective Facilitation in Social Studies Curriculum among Students of Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State

Abstract

The study sought to examine the prospects of teaching community education for effective facilitation in Social Studies curriculum among social science students of Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State. This study adopted a descriptive survey research design where questionnaire was used to acquire necessary data for the research work. Population comprises of all Social Studies Students of Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select one hundred (100) Social Studies Students of Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island. A self-developed questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The research instrument used for the study was a questionnaire. Two research hypotheses were formulated and tested for the study. The data collected was analyzed with the use of chi-square statistical tool. The result revealed that, there will be a significant relationship between community education and effective facilitation in Social Studies among students of Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island and there will be a significant relationship between Students and facilitation in Social Studies. The study recommended that Seminars, workshops and conferences should be organized for Social sciences specialists and Social Studies teachers to create awareness between the scope and content of both discipline, adequate and suitable textbooks for Social Studies should be introduced and made available for students’ utilization in schools.
