The breakout of infectious disease in the world today has become a phenomenon that has been taken lives in great numbers all over the world. Nations with good health care system become apprehensive and overwhelm with the ravaging effects of any outbreak of infectious disease. COVID-19 outbreak took its deadly toll in almost all the nations of the world. Nations made efforts to curb the spread of any outbreak of infectious disease by putting up health enlightenment, advocacy and mass media awareness campaign to educate masses on best safety and precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. This position paper observed and conducted a literature search on COVID-19 in Nigeria to identify the impacts of rapid public health enlightenment (RPHE), advocacy and mass media awareness campaign on health modification behaviour of Nigerians. It was observed that the RPHE and other campaign have little or no impact on Nigerians due to their perceptions, ideologies, beliefs and failures of the campaign to be all-encompassing without prejudice to culture, tradition and language. This paper recommends all-encompassing mass media awareness campaign and intensive health education and enlightenment that cover the nooks and crannies of the entire country (Nigeria).
