Abstract

The study was an investigation on the influence of counsellor self-efficacy, adversity quotient and professional commitment on the ethical practices of practising counsellors in Southwest, Nigeria. Using the descriptive survey design, two hundred practising counsellors in four randomly selected states in South West, Nigeria were used for the study. Four standardized and valid scales were administered to the participants to obtain the data required. Three research hypotheses were tested in the study at 0.05 level of significance. The Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple regression analysis were the main analyses in the study. The result indicated that there was a significant relationship between counsellor self-efficacy, adversity quotient, professional commitment, and ethical practices. The result also indicated that about 27.8% of the of the variance in the occurrence of ethical practices of the participants was accounted for by the combination of the independent variables. Based on the findings, recommendations to significant stakeholders in the counselling profession were made.
