Relative Influence of Job Satisfaction, Personality, Organisational Climate, Need-For- Achievement on Corruption among Nigeria Immigration Service Personnel

Abstract

This study is designed to examine relative influence of job satisfaction, personality, organisational climate and need-for-achievement on corruption among Nigeria immigration service personnel. The study utilised a descriptive survey design of ex-post facto type. The population covered respondents from all the sections in the service. The zones were purposively selected because of the various allegation of corruption in both print and social media against it. The respondents were randomly selected across 17 ranks, 8 commands and 8 units giving cognizance to the inclusive and exclusive criterion. In each command 191 respondents were used except airport command with 197 respondents. A total number of one thousand eight hundred research instruments were given out. One thousand five hundred and thirty-four were properly filled and returned. This is a retreival rate of 84.67%. The respondents consisted of (653) female and (881) male. The respondents age ranges from (25) to (56) years with mean age of 34 years and standard deviation of 6.35. instruments used were corruption Behaviour, Personality, Perceived Organisational Climate, Need-for-achievement and Job Satisfaction Scales. The collected data was analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) and multiple regressions at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between gender and corruption (r. = 0.13 P > 0.05); personality and corruption (r. = 0.81 P < 0.05), Need- for-achievement and corruption (r. = 0.34 P < 0.05), organizational climate corruption (r. = 0.0, P > 0.05), Job satisfaction and corruption. It is recommended that the Nigerian immigration Service should embark on psychological skills training for its personnel. These trainings can be in phases, and for effective result, it should be meant for every cadre and throughout all the immigration formations.
