School Leadership and Teachers Commitment as Predictors of Turnover Intentions of Secondary school Teachers in Katsina State Nigeria

Abstract

The study is aim at examining the relationship between School Leadership (SL) and Organizational Commitment (OC) on secondary school teacher’s Turnover Intentions in Katsina state Nigeria. Four hundred participants were used in this study. The study used School Leadership, Organizational Commitment and Turnover Intentions questionnaires to get the needed data. Both questionnaires were adopted and adapted. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analyses were employed to analyze the data collected using Special Package for Social Science Research (SPSS) version 20. The findings indicate that there is significant and negative relationship between School Leadership and Organizational Commitment on Turnover Intentions among secondary school teachers in Katsina state (β .33). The findings bring to the fore the need for the secondary school leadership to utilize transformational leadership styles in order to enhance the teacher’s organizational commitment and reduce teachers turnover intention. The findings add to the existing literature on leadership especially in Nigeria where little was written on the area.
