Social welfare programmes provide assistance to helpless citizens, both young and old, in every area of life, to help in the well-being of the entire society. Such programme areas include disaster relief assistance such as Covid-19 pandemic which is already leaving its foot prints in terms of both positive and negative consequences. The paper discusses duties of social welfare system in the world in solving the present global problem. Such include creating awareness and mobilizing other groups of people needed in stemming down the disease and alleviating their fear, helping the generality of people to take precautions, curbing the spread of the virus through health education - proper hygiene, social distancing, staying at home, eating foods with high immunity value etc. The paper argues that the success of social welfare programme rests on Abraham Maslow’s theory of needs to have a total being. It was reiterated that social welfare professionals need to possess some characteristics that will help them carry out their duties adequately and successfully during and after covid-19 pandemic. The paper also discusses the counselling implications in terms of coping skills; acceptability and adjustment of human race to the virus, and behavioral, economic and social changes brought by covid-19.
